Whether you had a hard day, or the best day of your life. If the post is hopping, or is empty, the service is always the same. You are greeted and treated to a warm smile, great food, and amazing generosity. The staff is friendly and always up for a conversation. If you haven't been, you must. Whether you are a local or just passing through, make sure to add this watering hole to your journey. Great food, great people, and huge selection of alcohol, what more could you ask for?

The Hitching Post, Ahwahnee: 2024 Aug 6 (4.87 of 5) The Hitching Post in Ahwahnee played a role in the 2004 hit movie, Sideways. The food may not be Michelin star quality but the service here has always been 5 stars. The large dining room is clean and well-kept. Even the game area in the corner looks free from dust and dirt. Fish & Chips: I had the best-tasting Fish & Chips in a very long time. This classic dish of the British Isles had a subtle sweet and buttery taste. The steamy battered fried cod was accompanied by a basketful of delicate potato chips. I truly enjoyed the delicate crunch that had the right amount of salt. I had my order with coleslaw, which was a good marriage between the deep-fried fish and chips. This dish is definitely a 5 in my book. Lemonade: My lemonade was refreshing - with enough acidity and sweetness. Another 5 of 5. French Dip Sandwich: I didn't taste this but was told it was very good. (5 of 5) Beer: I didn't taste this but was told it's one of the better-tasting beer sold locally. 1850 Bootjack (5 of 5) Onion Rings: I didn't taste this. I was informed the onion rings were overdone and very oily. (4 of 5) The server came to ask how we like our food, and when my friend told him the onion rings were overdone, he offered to re-cook them. Now, that is a 5 to me. Service: You'll get a 5-star service here. The atmosphere is open but the service is warm. Overall, this is a must-visit eatery if you're in the area.
